Who is Catherine Musakali?

FCS. Catherine Musakali is the immediate past Chairman of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya. She is a Certified Secretary, Fellow of the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya and a Member of the Law Society of Kenya. She holds an LLB (Hons), LLM (Commercial Law) from University of Nairobi, a post graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and a Diploma in Securities and Investment from the Securities and Investment Institute, UK. She is currently a Governance Consultant at Dorion Associates.

She has previously served as the Head of Legal and Company Secretary of Shell in Kenya and Tanzania. Further, she was responsible for legal services for Shell Companies in Uganda, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti , Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Ethiopia and served as the contracting and procurement legal focal point for all the 33 Shell Companies in Africa.

As Chairman of the Institute, she pushed the Institute to greater heights and is credited with a number of achievements. She is the Kenyan “King” having chaired and spearheaded the development of three Codes of corporate governance in Kenya, being Mwongozo, the Code of Governance for State Corporations, The Capital Markets Code of Corporate Governance Practices for Listed Companies in Kenya and the ICPSK Code of Corporate Governance for Private Organizations. She also spearheaded the development and launch of the Champions of Governance Index (CGI).

CS. Musakali remains very passionate about governance and the attainment of gender balance on Boards. She is a Board member of KASNEB and Faulu Microfinance Bank.
