In the sixth installment of the Junior Membership Webinar Series, exclusive speaker Wanjikú Wairia, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer at The SEWILI Group Ltd. with over 30 years of global experience as an entrepreneur and influencer, joins us for a discussion about two activities that have been made incredibly difficult to carry out during times of social distancing and Zoom meetings: leveraging one’s appearance as a tool of self-expression and building leadership competence.

Aspiring young leaders should be aware of the importance of good impressions. In fact, people’s first impressions often become their lasting impressions. But where can people find the confidence to project their unique characters? How can introverts and extroverts stand out equally in all social settings—whether casual or professional? How can people still express themselves when they have tight budgets or when a dress code is enforced?

Throughout Session 1, Ms. Wairia answers these questions and a lot more! And while she shares ample tips on how to adjust one’s body language to appear more confident, she emphasizes that what matters most is one’s inner faith and drive.

“My attitude is what determines my altitude,” is what Ms. Wairia has told herself throughout her lifelong journey. Ms. Wairia strongly encourages her
audience to accept and express their true selves rather than conforming to peer pressure and trends on social media.

However, beyond presenting their most polished and confident selves, how can young people showcase their leadership abilities and potential? How can they prove to their peers, coworkers, and supervisors that they are ready to experiment with leadership roles and work their way up to senior
management positions?

Moderator Eunice Kuria declares, “Where you get to doesn’t depend on where you come from,” and Ms. Wairia is living proof of that statement. Her story of struggles with poverty as a child, perseverance through years of a challenging education, and eventual rise to success as an acclaimed leader, coach, and social impact advocate is one that showcases the high-yielding results of persistent faith, alongside hard work and dedication to leadership competency.

Throughout Session 2, Ms. Wairia shares how her legacy as a leader continues to evolve as she continues to take on new challenges and constantly uncover her weaknesses. In her PowerPoint presentation, she explores the 4 core competencies of every leader, tips to overcome imposture syndrome, how to develop a leadership style, and more!
